Heroes At Home

Building Stronger Homes for Those Who Serve

About Us

Heroes at Home exists to support first responders and strengthen the relationships that matter most — especially marriages, families, and life at home.

“We believe first responders and their families face unique pressures that can impact emotional health, communication, finances, and connection long before a major crisis ever occurs. Heroes at Home provides practical support, meaningful community, and relationship-centered resources designed to help families build stronger, healthier homes before crisis happens.”

Our Founder

Kip Nelson is the Founder of Heroes at Home and has dedicated more than 34 years to serving individuals, families, and communities through pastoral care, leadership, and crisis support. For more than 24 years, he has served at Legacy Christian Church in the Kansas City area, where he has walked alongside people through some of life’s most meaningful and most difficult seasons.

In addition to his pastoral ministry, Kip has served for more than 10 years as a Volunteer Police Chaplain with the Lee’s Summit Police Department, where he has provided care, encouragement, and crisis support for officers and their families. His work has included serving during times of grief, trauma, personal hardship, and critical incidents, while also helping build stronger relationships of trust and support within the first responder community.

Kip also serves with FRST Midwest and brings more than 1,000 hours of advanced Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) training to his work with first responder agencies and families. Through Heroes at Home, his passion is to strengthen marriages, support spouses, and help first responder families build healthier, more connected homes before crisis ever takes hold.

Kip has been recognized for his compassion, service, and commitment to helping others, and his heart for ministry extends beyond the church into the broader community. He and his wife, Kathryn, are the parents of three children, including two through adoption.
